Summer Garden Successes

Every year it seems, our gardening experiences have been, to put it lightly, a learning experience.  It seems we learn more of what not to do than what actually works. This year has been no different. Instead of drought, we have been dealing with more rain than we need, which brings about the bane of my existence this summer...weeds.

There have been some successes this year, however. If you look at the raised beds behind the farm house right now, you'll see this:
That is one massive bunch of tomato plants.

This past Sunday we spent the afternoon at Lake Ontario on the sailboat.  It's been a tough summer for sailing.  We went literally for weeks with drenching rains following a cool spring.  Sunday was perfect, with temperatures in the 80's, full sun, and hours ahead to enjoy.

Farms and businesses, homes and families are demanding.  I am often tempted to forego the pleasure of an afternoon of rest and refreshment because the list of things I need to accomplish grows faster that the list of things that I have accomplished.  This is what I have learned (finally!).  Taking the time to rest and reflect helps me to prioritize the important jobs and the ones that are less important can stay on the list until I get around to them.

Sunday was wonderful!  I read my favorite magazine from cover to cover while Larry washed the boat.  We were visited by the family of swans that knows we have treats to share, and we had several hours of enjoyable sailing.

When I arrived home I didn't see the list of work to be done, I saw the farm.  Stone Hollow Farm.

Update July 2013: Progress!

Things have been quite busy at Stone Hollow these days. After years of dreaming, planning, learning, and effort, everything is starting to come together! Construction of the kitchen is finished, save for some painting and other small things, and it has turned out amazing. I have never been in a professional kitchen that is as clean, bright, and efficient as ours. Not to mention the views!

It is such a refreshing and relaxing place to work.

In other news, we have a real .com website! Our previous address, stonehollowfarmny.blogspot.com, will now be redirected here. It is definitely a work-in-progress, as I am still a complete noob, but I am learning as I go. I am planning on adding lots of features to the site in the future, so stay tuned!

More updates and pictures to be uploaded soon, and we now plan on keeping a regular schedule with blog posts from now on.

Love you guys, and thanks for sticking with us!
